The Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California is home to two theme parks, the original Disneyland Park and the more recently built Disney California Adventure Park. The resort has three hotels, and an area called Downtown Disney which features shops, restaurants and other entertainment.
Disneyland Park is the only one of the Disney theme parks that was actually designed and developed by Walt Disney himself. With the theme of Disney characters and fairy tales, it attracts around 16 million visitors a year, making it one of the world’s most popular theme parks. The park includes eight different lands, each with their own theme. You enter the park arriving at Main Street USA, with a vision of the majestic and iconic Sleeping Beauty Castle. From here you can choose your route, with different lands suited to different interests.
For the thrill seekers among you, the futuristic Tomorrowland is essential, as it’s home to the daring Space Mountain rollercoaster. Frontierland also has a fantastic rollercoaster, Thunder Mountain. If you don’t mind getting wet, Splash Mountain is also great fun and gets the heart racing with its dramatic drop! Other popular attractions for teens and adults include the Pirates of the Caribbean (which actually inspired the film!) and the spooky Haunted Mansion.
For younger children there are many attractions which provide a magical Disney experience, including It’s A Small World and The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh. Plus, there’s fun for the whole family on The Jungle Cruise in Adventureland and Peter Pan’s Flight, during which you will have a great view across the park.
The Disney California Adventure Park has a different theme, reflecting the culture, history and geography of California itself. The park has eight areas, which again each have their own theme, including the Victorian-inspired Paradise Pier and the glamorous Hollywood Land. The park has a great selection of rides which are particularly suitable for families with children, and impressive films and live shows such as Muppet Vision 3D and Disney’s Aladdin: a Musical Spectacular.
In both parks, you will have the chance to meet and have your photo taken with all the most popular Disney characters, such as Cinderella, Chip and Dale, and of course Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Throughout the year there are many special seasonal events, for example firework shows and parades. The parks are open all year round, whatever the weather, even on Christmas Day.
