If you love film and TV then you simply can’t visit Los Angeles without checking out Universal Studios Hollywood. This film studio-meets-theme park gives you the chance to learn about the making of some of the most successful movies in history, as well as enjoying world-class rides and shows.
There are 16 different rides at Universal Studios Hollywood, each themed around one of Universal’s classic movies or TV shows. For the thrillseekers there is a scary indoor rollercoaster, Revenge of the Mummy, the Universal House of Horrors and a great fun Jurassic Park-inspired water ride. Another popular recent addition to the park is Transformers: The Ride, a 3D ride in the dark which, according to the Los Angeles Times, “ranks among the top theme park attractions in the world.â€
For families with younger children, there is plenty of entertainment on offer. The Simpsons Ride, which is set in Krusty the Klown’s Krustyland theme park, is very popular, as is the water and ball play area The Adventures of Curious George. While you’re walking around the park, you may also spot some familiar faces! You’ll have the chance to meet and have your photo taken with many of Universal’s most popular characters and stars, including Marilyn Monroe, Dora the Explorer, Count Dracula and Shrek.
As well as the rides, there are some fantastic shows to see during your visit to Universal Studios Hollywood. Music fans will love The Blues Brothers Revue, while film fanatics will be fascinated by the Special Effects Stage, and the Universal Animal Actors show always goes down well with the kids.
You can also take a tour of the studio itself, which is the world’s largest working movie studio and was built with Steven Spielberg as a creative consultant. Some of the famous sights you can see include Wisteria Lane, the home of the Desperate Housewives, and Bates Motel, where you will encounter Psycho murderer Norman Bates.
The park is open all year round, with frequent special events including the Halloween Horror Nights in October and Grinchmas during the Christmas period. Once in the park, all your needs will be catered for, with plenty of choice of food and some amazing movie and TV-themed souvenirs.
